Skirmish Shooting in South Texas

Welcome to this website! What is skirmish shooting? It is fun! Skirmish shooting is different from living history and re-enacting. It is competitive live fire blackpowder shooting using original and/or reproduction Civil War rifle firearms. It is a team driven sport. The firearms used are: rifle muskets, smoothbores, carbines, and revolvers. (Only reproduction arms that are approved may be used.) The events in a skirmish shoot are called relays which are timed team competitions shooting at breakable targets such as clay pigeons and tiles. Participants wear authentic uniforms and belong to teams. Teams have 6 or more members and designate themselves with actual units from the Civil War, either Federal or Confederate. Here in South Texas there are three teams: 2nd TX, 4th TX Co F "The Mustang Greys," and the 6th TX CoK "The Alamo Guards." 4th TX Co F and 6th TX Co K were organized in South Texas. Hopefully there will be a Federal unit some day. The members of each team wear uniforms of the historical unit and learn the history of the unit represented. Membership is required to participate in skirmish events. If you want to get involved , please send an e-mail to the address below. Some members enjoy skirmish shooting for the satisfaction of shooting Civil War era arms in competition. Others want to try to see what it was like to shoot these kinds of firearms. But everyone enjoys a moment during the day to relax and tell a story that happened on the skirmish line during competition. This is also a way to honor those on both sides of a struggle during a very pivotal period of our nation's history. It is a hobby to appreciate American history.
There is also individual competition which includes all the firearms in team competition in addition of breech loaders.
